Marie-danielle Leblanc

As the miles accumulate, Leblanc likes to write down her thoughts, make a note of the weather or the name of a place, take pictures and collect images. The travel diary is an ideal instrument for her. Whether she is driving on the highway or in the open country, walking on never-ending beaches or rocks stroked by the sea, it is through her travels that the artist captures landscapes that stretch into the vista. No matter the time of day and whatever the weather or the season, Leblanc communicates to her viewers a taste for the outdoors and the open air.

The beauty of the artist’s landscapes comes mostly from a spontaneous gesture and a certain attraction to danger. They are considered abstract and are illustrated by a series of horizontal bars that blend one into the other. The wide ranges of tones, from the lightest to the darkest, as well as the layering effect accentuate both the textures and the colours. The matter recesses or retracts, becomes distorted or fragmented. Some sky and sea reflections seem to rest on the shore, hazy textures hide perspectives and shapes slowly disappear in the whiteness of the sand or the indigo of the sea.

Leblanc convinces her viewers to see more than what appears in the painting. She transforms places - Orange Creek, Tea Bay, Port Howe, Bird Point or Hawks Nest – into poetic worlds. There is a sea and a land that live near her: her sea and her land, from which she draws all her inspiration. A field of flower, an evening mist and a breathtaking sunset fill the horizon and transport the viewers through timeless and imaginary landscapes.

The artist loves to work with matter, her creativity leading to a never-ending fascination. She has developed her own style, almost her own signature. Her work leads toward the creation of a bare space, a world that can be discovered and contemplated. She presents us with the result of a meditative process, the testimony of a new contemplation of the horizon.
